Intel has today announced a new low voltage version of the Intel Xeon 5500 series processor - the Intel Xeon L5530 processor improves the frequency of 60W LV Xeon 5500 SKUs running at 2.40GHz providing performance per watt improvements in blades and high-density computing. Additionally a dual-socket workstation chip was announced: The Intel Xeon W5590 processor running at 3.33GHz; and two single-socket workstation chips, the W3580 running at 3.33GHz and the W3550 running at 3.06GHz, all improving performance in threaded and non-threaded workstation environments.
The Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series automatically and intelligently adjusts server performance according to your application needs for an up to 9x performance gain over single-core servers1 at 18 percent less operating power. This enables you to achieve a 9:1 server consolidation ratio, reducing operating costs by up to 90 percent resulting in an estimated 8-month return on a new server investment.
